Agentic AI edges into bank production as the FCA eyes automation
Deutsche Bank rolled out Farsight across investment banking workflows and Indian banks began testing AI agents 12. Mastercard added trust services for AI-initiated payments, and the FCA plans to use AI to automate financial regulation 34.
Which way the market is moving
- Bank use of AI is shifting from copilots and pilots towards agents in production, with governance named as the condition for scaling 215.
- Card networks and payment firms are building trust services and protocols for transactions started by AI agents 367.
- Supervisors are turning automation on their own work while large AML penalties keep compliance process quality under scrutiny 489.
- AI is being built into existing workflow products for mortgage lending, spend management and document fraud checks 101112.
Agentic AI moves from pilot towards production
Deutsche Bank deployed Farsight across investment banking workflows while Indian and UK banks weigh how far to take AI agents 1213.
Deutsche Bank has deployed Farsight across its investment banking workflows, with the rollout described as bringing secure AI workflows to the bank 114. Indian banks have begun testing AI agents as a next layer of automation beyond copilots 2. Bank of America used Sibos 2026 to discuss agentic automation in treasury management 15.
The discussion is turning to control. Smartstream chief executive Akber Jaffer said scaling agentic AI from pilot to production depends on governance 5. IBM published an analysis of agentic threats in banking 16. FinTech Global noted that simply adding a model to an insurer's ecosystem is not the way to get the most value 17. IBS Intelligence argued UK banks will only see the gains if they stop playing it safe 13.
What it means: Institutions putting agents into production need controls similar to those applied to staff: defined permissions, audit trails and clear human sign-off points. The gap between firms that deploy and those that only pilot is starting to show.
Questions for vendors:
- Which actions can your agents take without human approval, and how is that configured?
- What audit trail is kept of agent decisions, prompts and tool calls?
- How do you test and monitor agents for misuse or manipulation once in production?

Payment networks build rails for AI agents
Mastercard expanded Agent Pay with trust and intelligence services for AI-initiated transactions 3.
Mastercard expanded Agent Pay, its agentic payments program, with trust and intelligence services that provide greater context for AI-initiated transactions 3. Stripe president John Collison said the company's agentic commerce activity went "vertical" last month 7.
At Sibos 2026, Coinbase's Yuga Cohler described new agentic protocols and secure infrastructure, built in collaboration with AWS, to power autonomous AI payments 6. Finextra also hosted discussion on how banks can prepare their payments for agentic AI and digital assets 18. Network programs, payment providers and crypto infrastructure firms are each building their own approach to payments that agents start on a customer's behalf 376.
What it means: Issuers and payments firms will need to decide how to recognise, authorise and dispute payments started by agents. Fraud rules, dispute processes and customer terms are worth reviewing before volumes grow.
Questions for vendors:
- How does your platform identify a transaction initiated by an AI agent rather than a person?
- Which agentic payment protocols and network programs do you support today?
- How are disputes handled when an agent acted under a customer's mandate?

Regulators automate as AML penalties land
The FCA plans to use AI to automate financial regulation, while US AML penalties hit Bank of America and American Express 489.
The Financial Times reported that the FCA plans to embrace AI to automate financial regulation 4. IBS Intelligence argued the same week that UK banks risk missing the gains from agentic AI if they keep playing it safe 13.
In the US, Bank of America was fined $1.2bn for a "deficient and ineffective" anti-money laundering process and "egregious and continued" violations of the Bank Secrecy Act 8. The OCC, the main US banking regulator, issued a $350m civil money penalty against American Express National Bank for deficiencies in its AML program 9. Both penalties concern the AML processes of large US institutions 89.
What it means: Compliance processes that rely on manual steps are harder to evidence and easier to fault. Firms should expect supervisors to work faster with data, and should check that AML case management can show who did what and when.
Questions for vendors:
- How does your case management record decisions and reviewer actions for AML audit?
- Can your workflows produce regulator-ready reporting on demand?
- How do you surface process bottlenecks and backlogs in alert handling?

AI built into lending, spend and document workflows
nCino, PEX and Veryfi each added AI automation to established finance workflows 101112.
nCino brought AI-powered guidance and automation together in its loan officer productivity suite for mortgage 10. PEX launched PEX AI, which automates everyday finance work, runs multi-step workflows and connects PEX to AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude 11.
Veryfi made its Fraud Detection & Prevention Suite generally available, describing it as a configurable, API-first platform that detects fraudulent documents and checks 12. These launches place AI inside tools that loan officers, finance teams and fraud analysts already use 101112.
What it means: Much new AI capability will arrive as features in existing products, so contract reviews and model risk processes need to catch it. Connecting finance tools to general AI assistants also widens who and what can reach financial data.
Questions for vendors:
- Which AI features are switched on by default, and can they be disabled per team?
- What data passes to third-party AI assistants when connectors are used?
- How is document fraud detection accuracy measured and reported to clients?

Market infrastructure invests in integration
SGX FX deepened its integration with BlackRock's Aladdin and CLS completed an infrastructure migration with Kyndryl 1920.
SGX FX and BlackRock expanded the integration between BidFX, SGX FX's cloud-based FX execution management platform, and Aladdin to streamline institutional FX trading workflows 19. CLS, which provides settlement, processing and data solutions, completed an infrastructure migration with Kyndryl 20.
At Sibos 2026, Smartstream's Nick Smith said banks are progressing at different speeds towards real-time payments, intraday liquidity management and post-trade automation, largely because of differences in culture 21. Finextra framed the discussion as the industry already moving beyond T+1 21.
What it means: Asset managers and banks that depend on these platforms should check how integration and migration changes affect their own workflows and controls. Culture, not only technology, may set the pace of post-trade automation programs.
Questions for vendors:
- What changes to APIs, data formats or cut-off times follow this integration or migration?
- How do you support intraday liquidity monitoring and post-trade exception workflows?
