Data and analytics in financial services this week

Data providers open new channels as provenance moves up the agenda
Equifax, FXC Intelligence and ATTOM each changed how their data reaches buyers, through open finance, AWS and Snowflake 123. Compliance commentary put AI provenance and data source checks at the centre 45.
Which way the market is moving
- Data providers are delivering data as services inside cloud platforms and AI tooling, not only as files 23.
- Consumer-permissioned open finance data is becoming part of credit bureau offers to lenders 1.
- Compliance attention is shifting from knowing a rule exists to proving where data and AI outputs came from 45.
- Banks are moving towards real-time payments and post-trade automation at different speeds, largely because of culture 6.
Data providers open new delivery channels
Equifax, FXC Intelligence and ATTOM each changed how their data reaches lenders and analysts 123.
Equifax is expanding its open banking solutions with consumer-permissioned insights enabled through Mastercard Open Finance 1. The company says this gives lenders and fintechs more choice in the open finance provider they use 1.
FXC Intelligence, a provider of cross-border payments data and intelligence, selected Amazon Web Services to deliver its MCP offering 2. ATTOM introduced semantic views for its property data in Snowflake 3. Both moves place third-party data directly inside platforms that institutions already run, including AI tooling and data warehouses 23.
What it means: Institutions buying credit, property or payments data will face more delivery options, each with different contract, lineage and access control questions. Data that lands straight in a warehouse or AI agent still needs the same consent and usage checks as a file feed.
Questions for vendors:
- How is consumer consent captured, recorded and passed through with permissioned data?
- Which delivery channels do you support, and do licence terms differ between them?
- How do semantic views or MCP access record which data an AI tool or user retrieved?

Provenance and quality of data and AI outputs
Compliance commentary and a new market data framework both focused on where data and AI outputs come from 45.
CUBE's latest regulatory read, covering 22 September to 2 October 2026, says compliance and risk teams can no longer rely on simply knowing that a rule exists 4. It names AI provenance and second-layer risk as forces reshaping compliance 4.
OsiTrustees introduced a 2026 framework aimed at strengthening market data accuracy and source verification 5. A Finextra community article examined managing external data in fintech, with a focus on signal quality and risk 7. The common thread is evidence of origin and quality, not only the content of the data 457.
What it means: Data and AI programmes should expect to show lineage for inputs and model outputs on request. External and market data sources deserve the same quality checks as internal data.
Questions for vendors:
- Can your platform show the source and transformation history behind any AI generated output?
- How do you verify and score the quality of third-party data before it is used in decisions?
- What audit records are kept when source data is corrected or replaced?

Regulatory reporting and published statistics
The ECB gave banks a choice of accounting basis for profit and loss reporting, and APRA released life insurance claims data 89.
ECB Banking Supervision said institutions will have the option to report profit and loss under IAS 1 or IFRS 18 in regulatory reporting 8. That gives supervised institutions a choice of basis while the newer standard comes in 8.
In Australia, APRA published its life insurance claims and disputes statistics on 16 October 2026 9. The release puts insurers' claims and disputes outcomes on the public record 9. Both developments rely on reporting pipelines that carry figures from source systems to supervisors 89.
What it means: Finance and data teams at supervised entities may need to support two profit and loss bases for a period, which affects data models and reconciliations. Insurers should check that claims and disputes data sent to APRA matches what they report internally.
Questions for vendors:
- Can your reporting platform produce profit and loss under both IAS 1 and IFRS 18 from the same data?
- How are mapping changes between accounting bases versioned and tested?
- What reconciliation controls sit between source systems and regulatory submissions?

AI in customer tools and data leadership
NatWest added Nvidia speech recognition to a spending insights tool, and ASIC is recruiting new data and security leaders 1011.
NatWest used speech recognition technology from Nvidia so its new audio-visual spending insights tool can understand customers' accents and pronunciations 10. It is a case of customer analytics delivered through voice 10.
NTT Data published pieces arguing that cloud is the missing link in banking AI and calling for innovation with accountability 1213. In Australia, ASIC's security and data chiefs will leave in December, and the corporate watchdog now wants a CISO, a CDAO and a contract CTO 11.
What it means: Voice based insight tools widen the range of customer data an institution holds, so privacy and accuracy testing should cover accents and speech. Leadership change at ASIC may shift its data priorities, which Australian regulated entities should watch.
Questions for vendors:
- How do your speech models perform across accents, and how is that tested?
- Where is voice data processed and stored, and for how long?
- What accountability controls apply when AI features run on your cloud services?

Infrastructure under financial data flows
CLS completed an infrastructure migration, and the UK NCSC issued TLS configuration guidance 1415.
CLS, a financial market infrastructure group delivering settlement, processing and data solutions, completed an infrastructure migration with Kyndryl 14. At Sibos 2026, Smartstream's Nick Smith said banks are progressing at different speeds towards real-time payments, intraday liquidity management and post-trade automation, largely because of differences in culture 6.
The UK NCSC published recommended profiles to configure TLS securely for the most common versions and scenarios, with guidance on managing older versions 15. Data moving between providers, platforms and institutions depends on these settings 15.
What it means: Real-time and intraday data needs depend on the infrastructure and transport security beneath them. Institutions can use the NCSC profiles as a baseline when reviewing data feeds from providers.
Questions for vendors:
- Which TLS versions and profiles do your data feeds and APIs support today?
- How do you handle clients still on older TLS versions?
- Can your platform support intraday or real-time data for liquidity and post-trade use?
