JPMorgan shuts out outside AI agents as stablecoins reach cards
Jamie Dimon said JPMorgan Chase will not allow outside agents to directly access accounts for retail customers, weeks after the launch of Meta's Muse AI assistant 1. Stripe, Plasma and Mastercard moved stablecoins closer to everyday card and business payments 23.
Which way the market is moving
- Large banks are setting limits on how outside AI agents reach customer accounts 1.
- Card networks and payment providers are joining stablecoin and fiat payments behind single interfaces and card products 32.
- Business banking is shifting toward bundles of cards, cross-border payments and trade services 456.
- Incumbents are launching separate digital banks to enter new markets 7.
AI agents meet the limits of account access
JPMorgan Chase will not allow outside AI agents to directly access retail customer accounts, Jamie Dimon said 1.
Jamie Dimon said JPMorgan Chase will not allow outside agents to directly access accounts on behalf of retail customers 1. The stance came weeks after the launch of Meta's Muse AI assistant 1. PEX launched PEX AI, which runs multi-step finance workflows and connects its corporate card and spend platform to AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT 8.
Inside the large banks, chief executives framed AI in different ways 9. Citi's Jane Fraser pointed to faster product launches and reduced vendor spend, while Goldman Sachs' David Solomon called for rigorous testing and clear human accountability 9.
What it means: Institutions need a stated policy on third-party agents reaching customer accounts, and a digital banking platform that can enforce it through blocking, consent or scoped access. Internal AI use will need the same testing and accountability that boards already expect elsewhere.
Questions for vendors:
- Can your platform detect AI agent sessions and tell them apart from customer sessions?
- What scoped, consented API access can you offer third-party agents instead of credential sharing?
- How do you log and attribute actions an agent takes on a customer's behalf?

Stablecoins and new card formats reach issuers
Stripe, Plasma and Mastercard launched products that bring stablecoins into card and payment flows 23.
Stripe and Plasma announced multi-currency stablecoin cards, aimed at people and businesses spending across currencies and markets 2. Mastercard launched a platform that combines its global payments capabilities with the stablecoin infrastructure of its recently acquired BVNK unit through a single API 3.
Episode Six announced Verified Backing from its E6 Token Control Ledger, offering real-time backing verification for tokenised money 10. Separately, Splitit announced the Splitit World Mastercard, a white-label instalment charge card built for mid-sized banks, credit unions and other financial institutions 11.
What it means: Card and payments teams may face customer demand to hold or spend stablecoins, along with questions on how reserves are verified. Smaller institutions are being offered ready-made card products that sit beside their existing card stack.
Questions for vendors:
- Does your card platform support stablecoin funding or settlement, and through which partners?
- How is the backing of any tokenised balance verified and reported to us?
- How does a white-label card integrate with our app, card controls and dispute handling?

Business banking turns to bundles and cross-border
U.S. Bank, Vivid and Karnataka Bank all moved to add cards, cross-border payments or trade services for business customers 456.
U.S. Bank is seeking to win small-business customers by bundling services, following its recent launch of business credit cards, CFO John Stern said 4. Vivid, a European digital business financial platform, selected Wise Platform for international payments as cross-border demand grows among its SME customers 5.
In India, Karnataka Bank launched Trade Konnect, a digital platform for forex services 6. A group of banking and fintech veterans also unveiled Movere, an AI-native payments platform for businesses 12.
What it means: Business customers are being offered bundles of cards, cross-border payments and trade services, so institutions should check whether their business channel can carry these services in one place rather than through separate products.
Questions for vendors:
- Can international payments from a partner be embedded in our business banking app?
- Do you support multi-user approvals and entitlements for SME cards and payments?
- Which trade and forex workflows are available in the digital channel today?

New digital banks and leadership changes

Wise, whose platform also featured in Vivid's choice for SME international payments, named former NICE chief executive Barak Eilam as non-executive director and chair designate 155.
What it means: Incumbents are using standalone digital brands to enter new markets, which lifts the customer experience that domestic institutions are compared against.
Questions for vendors:
- How quickly can your platform stand up a separately branded digital bank on shared infrastructure?
- Which clients have launched a new market brand on your platform, and how long did it take?

Patched banking apps and document fraud
ThreatFabric published research on Hirudo, covering fake updates and patched banking apps 16.

What it means: App integrity checks matter as much as login controls. Institutions should confirm their app can detect tampering and that customer messaging covers unofficial update prompts.
Questions for vendors:
- Does the app detect repackaging, tampering or runtime modification, and what happens when it does?
- How will you tell us when a patched copy of our app is found?
- What device binding protects strong authentication if the app is compromised?
