Intraday liquidity moves unevenly as tokenised fund liquidity draws capital
Banks are moving at different speeds on intraday liquidity and post-trade automation, a Sibos 2026 discussion heard 1. Fission raised $10m to build liquidity infrastructure for tokenised investment funds 2.
Which way the market is moving
- Banks are progressing at different speeds towards real-time payments, intraday liquidity management and post-trade automation, largely because of differences in culture 1.
- Venture money is going into liquidity infrastructure for tokenised investment funds, aimed at faster access to capital in digital private markets 2.
- Interest in stablecoins for cross-border business-to-business collections is well ahead of actual use, at 88% belief against 27% acceptance among surveyed SME finance leaders 3.
- Fintech funding rose to more than $2.8bn this week from $1.33bn the week before, with payments and financial infrastructure among the sectors funded 4.
Intraday liquidity and post-trade move at different speeds
A Sibos 2026 discussion heard that banks are moving unevenly towards real-time payments, intraday liquidity management and post-trade automation 1.
At Sibos 2026, Smartstream's Nick Smith said banks are progressing at different speeds towards real-time payments, intraday liquidity management and post-trade automation 1. He put the gap down largely to differences in culture 1. Finextra framed the discussion as the industry already moving beyond T+1 1.
The Bank of England published minutes of its Money Markets Committee meeting for September 2026 5. The committee is a forum for market participants and authorities to discuss the UK unsecured deposits and funding market and the securities lending and repo markets 5.
What it means: Institutions still running end-of-day liquidity positions may find the operating model, not only the software, is what holds back intraday management. Treasury, payments and post-trade teams need a shared view of positions before real-time settlement raises the stakes.
Questions for vendors:
- Can your platform show intraday liquidity positions across payment systems and nostro accounts in real time, and at what latency?
- How does your post-trade automation handle shortened settlement cycles beyond T+1?
- What change management support do you provide when treasury and operations teams move from batch to intraday processes?

Tokenised funds and stablecoins test liquidity tooling
Fission raised $10m for tokenised fund liquidity infrastructure while research found stablecoin acceptance lagging interest 23.
Fission, a firm building liquidity infrastructure for tokenised investment funds, secured $10m in a Series A round 2. It says it wants to bring faster access to capital to digital private markets 2.
Separate research reported by Finextra found that 88% of senior finance professionals at SMEs operating internationally believe stablecoins could improve cross-border business-to-business collections 3. Yet just 27% currently accept them 3. The research described this as a gap in SME stablecoin adoption 3.
What it means: Asset managers, super funds and banks with tokenised fund or stablecoin exposure will need liquidity and cash tools that treat these instruments alongside conventional holdings. The gap between interest and use suggests demand may arrive unevenly, so phased capability is worth weighing.
Questions for vendors:
- Can your liquidity and cash forecasting modules hold tokenised fund units and stablecoin balances alongside fiat positions?
- How do you value and haircut tokenised assets in liquidity buffers and collateral pools?
- What reconciliation do you support between on-chain records and the general ledger?

JP Morgan Payments is supporting Mercado Libre's global selling expansion 6. Finextra noted that cross-border marketplace flows can add complexity across onboarding, funding movement and seller pay-outs, especially when programs expand quickly across geographies 6.
FinTech Global counted more than $2.8bn raised across fintech funding rounds this week, up from $1.33bn the week before 4. Ramp led with a $1.85bn raise 4. The 17 deals spanned artificial intelligence, payments, insurance, cybersecurity, lending and financial infrastructure 4.
What it means: Embedded cross-border payment programs move cash across currencies and entities faster than many treasury forecasts assume. Institutions offering or using these services should check that cash positioning and FX exposure reporting keep pace with program growth.
Questions for vendors:
- How does your cash forecasting capture embedded payment and marketplace pay-out flows across currencies?
- Can your platform report FX exposure from cross-border payment programs by entity and currency each day?
- What integrations do you offer with payment providers' funding and settlement data?
