Which way the market is moving

Australian institutions commit to core change

MyState Limited selected TCS BaNCS and Queensland Country Bank selected Fiserv and VeriPark for its core 12.

MyState Limited has selected TCS BaNCS to transform its core banking operations, according to TCS 1. Queensland Country Bank has selected Fiserv and VeriPark to replace its core banking system 2.

The Queensland Country Bank choice pairs a core provider with a second vendor, VeriPark 2. In the same week, investors suing Fiserv told a US judge the company has no basis for having their shareholder lawsuit dismissed, pointing to Fiserv's own comments about a 'reset' 11. Both Australian decisions came within days of each other 12.

What it means: Australian institutions planning their own core change now have nearby peers to ask about delivery. Vendor legal and financial news, such as the Fiserv litigation, belongs in due diligence alongside product fit.

Questions for vendors:

  1. How many Australian core programmes are you delivering at once, and with which local delivery teams?
  2. Which APRA reporting, NPP and direct entry capabilities are live in production in Australia today?
  3. When a core vendor and a second vendor deliver together, who owns integration defects and the go-live date?

Stablecoins and tokenised money reach the ledger

Cross River is embedding Ripple's stablecoin into its operating system and Episode Six launched backing verification for tokenised money 34.

Cross River Bank announced it is embedding Ripple's stablecoin into its operating system, describing itself as a technology infrastructure platform powering embedded financial solutions 3. Episode Six, a card issuing and ledger provider, launched Verified Backing from the E6 Token Control Ledger, offering real-time backing verification for tokenised money 4.

Payments Dive reported that stablecoin start-ups are pushing payments modernisation forward and bringing incumbents along too 6. Both product announcements place tokenised money within bank ledger or operating system infrastructure rather than in a separate platform 34.

What it means: Institutions that expect to hold or move tokenised value will need their core or ledger to account for it and prove its backing. That is a ledger design question as much as a payments one.

Questions for vendors:

  1. Can your ledger hold stablecoin or tokenised balances alongside fiat accounts, and how are they reconciled?
  2. What real-time evidence of backing can you give auditors and supervisors?
  3. Which tokenisation or stablecoin integrations are in production rather than pilot?

AI-native platforms bid for the core

Emprise Bank signed a design partnership with AI-native start-up Maximum to transform its core banking system 512.

Emprise Bank has announced a design partnership with Maximum, an AI-native banking infrastructure company, to transform its core banking system 5. FinTech Futures described Maximum as a start-up and the work as a core banking technology overhaul 12.

SBS launched a sovereign AI platform for core banking with NVIDIA 7. Temenos published material on banking experiences powered by AI 13, and Finastra discussed AI security alongside core banking modernisation at Sibos 2026 14.

What it means: A design partnership lets an institution shape a new core but carries early adopter risk. Sovereign AI offerings raise the question of where models run and where customer data goes.

Questions for vendors:

  1. Where does AI act on ledger data, and what human approval sits before any posting or customer change?
  2. Where are models hosted, and where does inference and training data reside?
  3. How many institutions run your core in production, and what protects a design partner if your funding changes?

Modernisation in parts, with resilience in view

Sound Credit Union chose Temenos SaaS for collections, while CLS completed an infrastructure migration with Kyndryl 910.

Sound Credit Union selected Temenos SaaS to modernise its collections operations 9. Temenos also published a benchmark of its composable modernisation model 8, and RedCompass Labs argued at Sibos 2026 that banks can manage payment modernisation complexity by using the ecosystem and AI 15.

CLS, a financial market infrastructure group, completed an infrastructure migration with Kyndryl 10. The UK NCSC published recommendations for configuring post-quantum cryptography in TLS and said now is the time to migrate 16.

What it means: Replacing one function at a time can lower programme risk but adds integration and exit terms to manage. Post-quantum readiness is becoming a fair question for every core and channel vendor.

Questions for vendors:

  1. Which of your modules can run alongside an incumbent core, and what integration does that need?
  2. What is your roadmap for post-quantum TLS on APIs and customer channels?
  3. What exit and data return terms apply to single-function SaaS modules?
