Claims goes to the cloud as insurers put AI onto platforms
SiriusPoint is implementing DOCOsoft Vew, an AI-powered, cloud-native SaaS claims system, while Manulife targets $1 billion in AI value by 2027 12.
Which way the market is moving
- Claims systems are now pitched as AI-powered, cloud-native SaaS, as in SiriusPoint's choice of DOCOsoft Vew 1.
- Large insurers are moving AI onto enterprise platforms with stated value targets, as Manulife has done 23.
- Underwriting is drawing on specialist external data, such as AXA XL's use of an EV data platform for fleet risks 45.
- Reinsurance is being pulled into core modernisation discussions rather than left as a separate system 6.
Claims platforms shift to cloud SaaS with AI
SiriusPoint has partnered with DOCOsoft to implement DOCOsoft Vew, an AI-powered, cloud-native SaaS claims system 1.
Irish claims technology provider DOCOsoft announced a partnership with specialty underwriter SiriusPoint to implement DOCOsoft Vew, which it describes as an AI-powered, cloud-native SaaS claims system 1. Quensus is betting on prevention data to tackle costly water claims 7.
Claims cost pressure is the backdrop. Swiss Re has warned that UK liability claims could face further cost pressures as the government considers reforms to litigation funding, collective redress and product liability 8. Separately, run-off group Premia Holdings has sold its claims, audit and risk advisory firm Alan Gray to Lewis & Ellis, a Novacap portfolio company 9.
What it means: Insurers reviewing claims systems should expect SaaS delivery and embedded AI to be the default offer. The harder questions are how AI suggestions are governed and how open claims move off legacy systems.
Questions for vendors:
- Which claims decisions does the AI make or suggest, and how is each one logged for audit and dispute handling?
- How do you migrate open claims from a legacy system onto your SaaS platform without running two systems for years?
- Can prevention or sensor data be attached to a claim file and used in triage?

Insurers move AI from projects onto shared platforms
Manulife has launched an enterprise AI platform and is targeting $1 billion in value by 2027 23.
Manulife has launched an enterprise AI platform as it targets $1 billion in value by 2027 2. Insurance Business described the move as Manulife shifting AI onto a platform 3.
Commentary on core systems is also turning to delivery speed. A Yahoo Finance piece points to a hidden speed-to-market tradeoff inside insurance core platforms 10. On the finance side, Capgemini has set out an intelligent finance operations hub, pitched as a unified finance intelligence platform for banking and insurance 11. Together these show AI and speed claims being judged at platform level rather than feature by feature 10311.
What it means: If large insurers run AI on their own enterprise platforms, core system vendors will need to expose services and data cleanly to them. Buyers should test whether a core platform's AI fits their own AI governance rather than sitting outside it.
Questions for vendors:
- Which AI services in your core platform can be called from an insurer's own enterprise AI platform, and through what interfaces?
- What does speed to market look like for a new product, and what configuration limits trade it off?
- How is the value of your AI features measured and reported back to the client?

Duck Creek reshapes its leadership team
Duck Creek Technologies has appointed William Magowan as Chief Sales Officer and named new general managers for underwriting and EMEA 1213.
Duck Creek Technologies has appointed William Magowan as Chief Sales Officer 1214. The company also named Andy Moss as GM of Underwriting and Lloyd Peters as GM of EMEA 13. Insurance Business listed Duck Creek among the week's insurance people moves 15.
Other appointments touched underwriting and risk data. Opterrix, a risk intelligence platform serving property and casualty insurers, promoted Rich Krupar to Chief Commercial Officer to lead its commercial strategy 5. Clearwater Underwriting, an Aquiline-backed MGA, appointed Henry MacHale as Chief Executive Officer in a newly created role 16.
What it means: Leadership changes at a core vendor can shift account management and roadmap priorities. Clients with live programs, especially in EMEA or on underwriting modules, should confirm that commitments carry through.
Questions for vendors:
- Who is now accountable for our account and delivery program, and has that changed?
- Do the new underwriting and EMEA leaders bring any changes to product roadmap or regional support?
- How are contracted roadmap commitments protected through leadership changes?

Underwriting leans on external data and reinsurance links
AXA XL has turned to an EV data platform to sharpen fleet underwriting, and INTX is putting reinsurance at the centre of modernisation 46.
AXA XL has taken up an EV data platform to sharpen fleet underwriting 4. FinTech Global reports that INTX is putting reinsurance at the centre of insurance modernisation 6. In the US, ACES Specialty Insurance Company, a new subsidiary of American Coastal Insurance Corporation, has received a Certificate of Authority to underwrite excess and surplus insurance 17.
Funding and deals continue around the core. Fruga, a Manchester InsurTech using open banking to reward policyholders, raised £1m to help consumers cut what they pay at renewal 18. Novacore has expanded its US InsurTech footprint with the acquisition of Diesel 19.
What it means: Underwriting systems increasingly need to take in specialist third-party data and pass exposure to reinsurance systems without manual rework. Integration capability matters as much as rating logic.
Questions for vendors:
- How does your underwriting workbench ingest third-party data such as telematics or EV data, and who maintains the integrations?
- How do ceded reinsurance terms flow from policy and claims data in your platform?
- What does it take to stand up a new line, such as excess and surplus, on your product configuration tools?
