Legal and contract management in financial services, week ending 16 October 2026
Week ending 16 October 2026 · 10 sources
Litigation, settlement deadlines and supplier contracts shape the week
JPMorgan is still fighting the Trump suit, and payouts from the Visa-Mastercard settlement have topped $631 million 12. EU and UK banks have one year left to prepare for T+1 3.
Which way the market is moving
- Securities settlement is moving to T+1 in the EU and UK within a year, and infrastructure groups are working toward 24/7 settlement for tokenised assets 34.
- Regulators are extending requirements to specific contract types, as the RBI did with banks' own hedging contracts 5.
- Legal technology vendors are joining tools together, such as TransPerfect Legal integrating Blackout with Reef Discovery 6.
- Insurers are moving claims management onto AI-powered, cloud-native SaaS, as SiriusPoint is doing with DOCOsoft Vew 7.
Litigation and claims administration stay in focus
JPMorgan is still seeking dismissal of the Trump suit, and Visa-Mastercard settlement payouts have passed $631 million 12.
Lawyers for JPMorgan still want the Trump lawsuit dismissed after the case moved to a new venue 1. They called the plaintiffs' blacklisting allegations "so bare that it is impossible to determine what JPMorgan allegedly stated, when, or to whom" 1.
Payouts from the $5.5 billion settlement with Visa and Mastercard have topped $631 million 2. The number of merchants receiving funds is nearing 700,000, according to a claims update 2. On the tooling side, TransPerfect Legal has integrated its Blackout product with Reef Discovery 6.
What it means: Financial institutions that are defendants or class members need matter records that follow cases across venues and track settlement claims through to payment. Discovery and redaction tools that work together can cut handling of sensitive documents during litigation.
Questions for vendors:
- How does your matter management system track a case that moves between venues, including deadlines and filings?
- Can your platform record class settlement claims lodged, amounts expected and payments received?
- Which e-discovery and redaction tools does your product integrate with, and how is privileged material protected between them?

Settlement timetables reach into contract terms
EU and UK banks have one year to be ready for T+1, and the RBI has extended a reserve rule to banks' own hedging contracts 35.
Banks in the EU and UK are under pressure to show operational readiness for next day settlement, with one year to go before the T+1 deadline 3. ClearToken, a UK market infrastructure group, has formed an alliance with Consensys focused on 24/7 settlement for banks with tokenised assets 4.
In India, the RBI has extended its forex risk reserve requirement to banks' own hedging contracts 5. Elsewhere, the National Bank of Ethiopia and PAPSS announced that Ethiopia has joined the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System network 8.
What it means: Shorter and continuous settlement cycles, and rules aimed at particular contract types, mean firms need to find affected agreements quickly. A searchable contract register with extracted settlement and hedging terms makes that review faster.
Questions for vendors:
- Can your CLM platform extract and report settlement timing clauses across trading and custody agreements?
- How quickly can we identify every hedging or derivative contract affected by a new regulatory requirement?
- Does your product support bulk amendment and repapering workflows with counterparty tracking?

Technology supplier contracts at regulators and FMIs
ASIC is seeking a contract CTO, while CLS and SiriusPoint have moved infrastructure and claims systems to outside providers 9107.
ASIC's security and data chiefs will leave in December 9. The corporate watchdog now wants a CISO, a CDAO and a "contract CTO" 9.
CLS, a financial market infrastructure group delivering settlement, processing and data services, has completed an infrastructure migration with Kyndryl 10. DOCOsoft, an Irish claims technology provider, has partnered with SiriusPoint, a global specialty underwriter, to implement DOCOsoft Vew, an AI-powered, cloud-native SaaS claims management system 7. Both arrangements place core functions with an outside technology provider 107.
What it means: When regulators and market infrastructure lean on contractors and service providers, supplier contracts carry more of the operational risk. Institutions should expect closer scrutiny of their own outsourcing terms, obligations and exit plans.
Questions for vendors:
- How does your CLM platform track supplier obligations, service levels and exit provisions for material outsourcing contracts?
- Can your system flag contracts that involve contractor staff in key technology roles?
- What reporting do you provide to support operational resilience and third party risk reviews?
