How to evaluate lending and origination vendors

  1. Name the channels and loan typesBranch, contact centre, broker and digital; home, personal, car, business. A vendor strong in broker-led home loans may not originate business lending at all.
  2. Watch one application end to endA scripted demonstration from enquiry to settlement, with a change of circumstance in the middle, shows the workflow a slide never does.
  3. Read the decisioning layer separatelyCredit policy as rules the institution owns and can change; serviceability from open banking data; the explanation a declined applicant receives.
  4. Ask how documents are handledIdentity, income and valuation documents: what is read automatically, what a person checks, and where the evidence is kept.
  5. Check the hand-offsTo the core for settlement and servicing, to collections for arrears, to the bureau and the valuer. Live connectors at named customers count; a connector list does not.

The method for the scan as a whole, longlist to shortlist, is on the market scan page; the report template gives the headings.

The requirements that separate them

Must-haves in most scans of this category: the register's gates. Each needs evidence named beside it.

  • One application record across every channel, including brokers
  • Credit policy and serviceability rules owned by the institution
  • Open banking transaction data in the serviceability assessment
  • Automated document reading with a human check where the policy requires one
  • Broker accreditation, commissions and clawbacks managed in the system
  • Responsible lending and credit reporting obligations met by design

The rules procurement teams ask vendors about

By country, the rules specific to lending and origination procurements. Vederca certifies nobody against these: they say what evidence to ask for.

Australia

  • NCCP Act (ASIC): Credit licensees meet responsible lending, disclosure and hardship obligations.
